Like all websites, our server briefly records technical information such as your IP address to keep the site running and secure. Scholarship applications
What we collect
When you apply, online or on paper, we collect:
- Identity and contact details: your name, date of birth, sex, marital status, email addresses, phone numbers, home address, and state, LGA and community of origin.
- Family background: number of siblings, your parents' occupation and marital status, and whether you hold another scholarship or bursary.
- Education: your JAMB registration number, score and subjects, your intended course and universities, your O' Level results and your secondary and primary schools.
- Other people's details you give us: the name and contact details of your next of kin and your academic referee. Please let them know you have shared their details with us.
- Your personal statement and how you heard about us.
- Documents: your passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O' Level result, JAMB result and, if you choose, your National Identity Card.
- Disability information, only if you choose to tell us.
We do not ask for bank details, your BVN or your NIN when you apply. If you are awarded a scholarship, we will contact you separately for the information we need to pay it.
Why we use it
- To check that you are eligible and to assess your application against our published selection criteria.
- To contact you about your application, including shortlisting, the post UTME stage and interviews.
- To check that the information and documents you give us are genuine, and that no one has applied more than once.
- To contact your referee about your application.
- If you are successful, to set up and manage your scholarship.
- To produce anonymous statistics about our applicants, for example how many applied from each state.
We rely on your consent, which you give when you submit your application, and on the steps needed to consider you for a scholarship at your request. If you tell us about a disability, we use that only to support you, for example by making arrangements for an interview, and only with your explicit consent. It does not affect how your application is assessed.
Our decisions are made by people. We do not use automated decision making or profiling.
Who can see it
- A small number of authorised Foundation staff, the Selection Committee, the Board of Trustees and the General Assembly of POTAF, only as needed to process applications.
- Your referee, and universities or examination bodies when we need to confirm your admission or results.
- Our website hosting provider, which stores the information for us under contract and may not use it for anything else.
- Authorities, where the law requires us to share it.
As stated in our terms and conditions, the names of successful candidates are published in national newspapers and may also appear on this website and our social media. We do not publish anything about unsuccessful applicants.
We never sell your information or share it for marketing.
How long we keep it
- Unsuccessful or withdrawn applications are deleted, with their documents, 48 months after the decision.
- Successful applications are kept for as long as the scholarship runs, and for up to six years after it ends so we can account for how our funds were used.
How we protect your information
- Information is sent to us over an encrypted connection.
- Applications and documents are stored outside the public website and can only be opened by staff who sign in with their own account.
- Uploaded photos are re-processed to remove hidden information such as location data.
- Staff accounts are protected with strong passwords, automatic sign out and limits on failed sign in attempts.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time, which will withdraw your application;
- ask for your information in a portable format; and
- complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information.
To use any of these rights, email info@adikibischolarships.org with your application reference number if you have one. We will reply within 30 days. We may ask you to prove your identity first.
